It's time to showcase a theatre star! Vanessa Smythe is our special feature guest at this slam and read her bio below:
Vanessa Smythe is a writer, actor, and theatre creator from Toronto. She has collaborated with the likes of Woody Harrelson and Julianne Moore, and has mentored with Christian Bök, Daniel MacIvor, and d’bi Young. Her original solo show, In Case We Disappear, played to critical and popular embrace in Toronto, New York, and the UK, where it was named one of the best free shows at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe (BFTBOScotland). Vanessa is a graduate of the Humber School for Writers and has an Honours BA in Philosophy from Western University. She has been a resident artist with All For One Theater Company in New York, and her recent acting credits include Designated Survivor (ABC), Murdoch Mysteries (CBC), and Cradle to Grave (NatGeo). Vanessa has enjoyed meaningful collaborations as creator and actor with Canadian Stage, The Company Theatre, Crow’s Theatre, Outside the March, Children at Play, fu-GEN Theatre, Howland Theatre Company, Young Peoples’ Theatre, Talk is Free, Rare Theatre Company, and Hopscotch on the Rocks. Recently featured in the world premiere of Adam Meisner’s For Both Resting and Breeding (Talk is Free), Vanessa is the creator of shows In Case We Stay and Lip Sync Sleepover, as well as co-creator of the original musical Offline (Talk is Free). Recently featured on the CBC, Vanessa is the Performance Poet in Residence with Outside the March, as well as the former host of their monthly live storytelling event, The Spoke. In addition to performing and creating new work, Vanessa leads poetry and creation workshops all across the country. She loves live music, getting lost in the woods, and a good, long, meandering heart-to-heart. @vsmythe
