Bio of feature poet:

Rage Almighty is more than just a poet who likes long walks on the beach. This Capricorn is an inspirational speaker, comedian, actor, author, activist, & teaching artist. Rage Almighty is as bold as his name, with a twisted sense of humor and a deep passion for helping others rise to be their best.

Incredibly versatile, Rage is equally comfortable competing on the world poetry stage, giving a keynote address or teaching an intimate writing workshop. His poetry covers a wide range of topics from teenage struggles to religion to erotic poems. He also effectively uses satire to comment on social issues.

Although not a coffee-drinking super hero, Rage uses his talents to give the voiceless a voice as he speaks out against abuse, domestic violence and mental illness. Suffering from depression himself, Rage is an advocate, helping others fight the stigma of this disease, especially in inner city communities. This carries through in his poems, such as “Bruises,” “Depression” and “My Romantic Suicide.”

As a teaching artist, Rage facilitates workshops centered on emotional literacy for adults and youth. Young people often are taught to be tough and build walls to protect themselves. He is passionate about helping students break down those walls and express themselves positively through art. Rage pushes students to make their pens bleed because he knows true art comes from the raw, deep emotions of the soul and guides students on their journey to share their art.

Rage is best known as an international, award-winning poet. He has received many accolades, included being named the Runner- up at the 2016 Individual World Poetry Slam Championships, awarded Teaching Artist of the Year with Louder Than A Bomb, won the 2014 National Poetry Award for Best Spoken Word Album, 2014 North Texas Spoken Word Awards for Poet of the Year and 2017 Bayou City Slam Champion , and was named one of the Top 15 best creatives in Dallas by CoSign Magazine. Rage also has been a five-time Dallas Slam Team member, the 2013 Dallas Grand Slam Champion & he represented the United States in the Paris World Cup Poetry Slam.

He has been featured in Season 4 of Lexus’ Verses and Flow and has opened for multiple musical artists such as Brand Nubian, T.I., Dead Prez, Kindred the Family Soul, Chrisette Michelle, Urban Mystic, and world-renowned poets Saul Williams and Nikki Giovanni.
